Lichtenhainer is a 3.8% smoky and lightly sour pale beer from the Saxony area of Germany, an obscure and esoteric beer-style that almost completely disappeared during the 20th century.
It has a gentle smoky flavour imparted by beechwood smoked malted barley, like a distant campfire. A lactic tang of acidity cuts through the bready, cereal-like body to add balance and drinkability in the relative absence of any hop bitterness. The carbonation is lively and brings a crisp & refreshing carbonic bite.
The perfect light beer for when the sharp summer sun fades in to the smoky comfort of Autumn.
